The coins typically originate from the Constantinian era with the majority from the 3rd and 4th Centuries AD. The coins are genuine and bought in bulk from European auction houses or people who find them metal detecting. Most originate from the Balkans - The Roman province of Dalmatia.
During the height of the Empire, Rome's mints were producing 1M coins per day. Later bronze issues are commonly found throughout Europe. During the 3rd and 4th century AD, inflation was one of the key factors towards the decline and fall of the Empire. Most of these coins, among other late Roman Bronze coins can be attributed to this period. Emperors such as Diocletian enacted price controls only making things worse driving consumers to the black market. Inflation and poor monetary policy crippled the Roman economy leading to the inability to pay it's armies. This is why these coins sell for such reasonable prices today!
