Commodus was a Roman emperor who ruled from 180 to 192 AD. He was born on August 31, 161 AD, as the son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius and his wife Faustina the Younger. His full name was Lucius Aurelius Commodus. Commodus' reign marked a turning point in the decline of the Roman Empire, as it demonstrated the dangers of an incompetent and extravagant ruler at the helm of one of the world's most powerful civilizations. His rule highlighted the vulnerabilities within the Roman political system and contributed to the broader instability that would eventually lead to the Crisis of the Third Century.
