Faustina the Younger, or Faustina II (c. 130-175 AD), was a Roman empress, daughter of Emperor Antoninus Pius and Empress Faustina the Elder, and wife of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Her marriage in 145 AD reinforced the stability of the Nerva–Antonine dynasty, and she bore thirteen children, including Commodus and Lucilla, playing a crucial role in the continuation of the imperial line. Renowned for her political influence, charitable works, and dedication to her family, Faustina accompanied Marcus Aurelius on various military campaigns, indicating her significant status in Roman affairs. Despite historical accounts hinting at scandal — often typical for prominent Roman figures — her husband greatly honored her following her death, and she was deified, reflecting the lasting esteem in which she was held within the imperial family and the broader Roman society.
